Fashion Frugality

How many of you have a closet full of clothes but have nothing to wear? Do you have items hanging in your closet that you don’t have anything to wear with or still have the tags on? What about that drawer full of useless makeup that turned out not to be the right color for you? How much do you think this wastefulness costs you each year? Well consider that, “on average, women spend about $2,000 per year on clothes and about 150 hours per year shopping for them”, says Personal Image Consultant Brenda Sherwood of Comin’ Up Roses.
I attended one of Brenda’s FREE Image Workshops recently and also employed her shopping assistance service and am ecstatic about the results. During the workshop Brenda covered how knowing the basic components that make up your total image and sticking to those guidelines for your personal type will save you money, time and frustration.
Basic Components of Image:
Color: Everyone looks best in different colors. There is a distinct different between warm and cool tones on the color wheel.
Skincare/Makeup : Take care of your skin! Use proper makeup colors and application based on your features and personality.
Face Shape: There are 8 basic shapes with various combinations: Round, Square, Rectangle, Pear, Oblong, Heart, Diamond, and Oval. It is the basis for the proper hairstyle and frames for your face, along with your personality.
Body Type: There are 6 basic types with countless combinations: Pear, Heart, Curved (figure 8), Ellipse, Angular, and Straight. Knowing your body type will you camouflage your figure flaws and show off your best “assets”.
Fashion Personality: There are 6 personality styles along with different combinations such as Classic, Dramatic, Romantic, Ingenue (innocence), Natural, and Gamin (homely). Learn how to dress for your personality by using fashion and accessories.
Wardrobing/Lifestyle: Knowing and having in your closet clothes and accessories that meet your lifestyle needs and how to put it all together pulls your total image together perfectly.
Familiarizing yourself with these basic components you will have a look that is totally you, one that projects who you really are, and you will learn how to save a ton of time and money!
How will it save you? “Everything in your wardrobe will now coordinate. When you shop, you will automatically pass over things that aren’t in your color or style. Why even try something on that you know doesn’t follow your image guidelines? There won’t be any more of those mistakes hanging in the closet or lying in your makeup drawer”, says Brenda. I found this to be true during our shopping trip. When I tried on clothes in my color and style, I looked fabulous! Now, when I practice these methods, I get complimented even in a t-shirt because it is in my color palette and I wear it with complimenting skirt and the right accessories!! The best part is that I don’t have to shop high end department stores to look like a million bucks. I still shop at my local thrift and consignment shops but have a flattering, trendy and, most importantly, affordable look!
Brenda also suggests that you carry these concepts over into your home and everything in your life! “I have found that my clients experience a complete life makeover because they have a distinguished image of who they really are. For example, I’m a romantic – it flows throughout my whole life from my wardrobe, to my home décor and marriage,” explains Brenda.
